Organizations are typically under pressure to reduce costs and increase the efficiency of their in-house IT team, usually principals or elected staff members, while continuing to provide maximum uptime of critical business systems. However many small to medium-sized businesses (SMBs) find that their resources are stretched across many different priorities and that their skills base is challenged.

So what happens? Data availability goes down, employee productivity hits rock bottom, billable time drops, and at the end of the day, the technology issues still exist because the expertise just doesn't exist in-house to properly address the issues.

Traditionally, SMBs plan their technology initiatives around the 'break/fix' scenario. This translates to technology being addressed only when something breaks. And when it does, then it's fixed. It's a rather contradicting methodology considering that SMBs rate their business data as priceless, and that operations come to a standstill without the use of computers.
